Lucha Libre Wrestling on Day of the Dead

  • Lucha Libre Wrestling on Day of the Dead

Lucha Libre Day Of The Dead is a thrilling and culturally rich event that combines the excitement of Mexican wrestling with the traditions of Dia de los Muertos. Taking place on Friday, November 1st, this special night brings together the spectacle of Lucha Libre with the festive atmosphere of the Day of the Dead celebration. Wrestlers adorned in elaborate costumes and iconic masks showcase their athleticism and persona in the ring, captivating audiences with their high-flying maneuvers and dramatic flair. Amidst the electrifying matches, spectators can immerse themselves in the vibrant colors and symbolism of Dia de los Muertos, honoring the spirits of the departed with reverence and joy. It’s an unforgettable fusion of sports and culture that embodies the spirit of Mexico’s rich heritage.

Day of the Dead Parade

  • Day of the Dead Parade

Taking place on Saturday, November 2nd, this annual parade transforms the streets of Mexico City into a colorful procession of music, dance, and elaborate floats adorned with marigolds, papel picado, and intricate altars.

As the parade winds its way through the city, spectators are treated to a feast for the senses, with participants dressed in elaborate costumes depicting skeletons, calacas, and iconic figures from Mexican folklore. Musicians fill the air with lively rhythms, while dancers perform traditional folk dances, celebrating the cycle of life and death in a joyful display of culture and community.

One of the highlights of the parade is the monumental alebrijes, fantastical creatures crafted from papier-mâché and brightly painted in bold colors. These larger-than-life sculptures tower over the crowd, showcasing the incredible artistry and creativity of Mexican artisans.

Throughout the parade route, spectators can also admire the stunning altars dedicated to loved ones who have passed away, adorned with candles, photographs, and offerings of food and flowers. These altars serve as a poignant reminder of the significance of Dia de los Muertos, honoring the memory of the departed and celebrating their enduring presence in Mexican culture.

Food Tour at Mercado Jamaica*

  • Food Tour at Mercado Jamaica*

Day of the Dead in Mexico City is one of the most vibrant times of the year! One of the best places to watch it unfold is at the city’s Jamaica Market, a citywide destination for Day of the Dead flowers and crafts, that also happens to have some of the best antojitos (typical snacks) we’ve tried. Led by Eat Mexico – Mexico City’s premier food tour company – we’ll stroll the aisles abundant with food, flowers and folk art — picture sugar skulls, papel picado, and tiny skeleton figurines all designed especially for Day of the Dead. We will explain the significance of Day of the Dead altars as we enjoy a scrumptious culinary experience filled with savory, traditional Mexican food. Come and see why Day of the Dead is so special to so many!
